Common gull

Larus canus

In Romania, this species can be seen during winter in large flocks or smaller groups, together with the black gulls, the pontic gulls or the yellow-legged ones.

Grouping with other species of gulls helps to better distinguish this species, smaller than the pontic seagulls, but bigger than the black gulls. 


  • Plumage: silver back, black tips tails, rest of the body white.

  • The beak is yellow, but it doesn’t have the red spot on the lower side.

  • Lenght: about: 43 cm.

  • Weight: 350 – 400 grams.
